An endowed chair or professorship is a faculty position supported by an endowment in perpetuity. An endowed chair requires a $1 million endowment and an endowed professorship requires an endowment of $500,000.
Endowed faculty positions allow the Health Sciences Center to recruit or retain educators, clinicians, and researchers who are leaders in their fields of study.
Faculty may be appointed to endowed chairs and professorships established at the Health Sciences Center. For endowed chairs only, the appointee will generally be a tenured faculty member. Endowed professorships do not carry such stipulations. The term of an endowed chair is governed by the terms of the donor agreement, or in the absence of such specifications, is determined by the dean.
